Fade away,
let time do its thing to both of us,
I wish I were writing a different tale;
I wish I could be sending you
another poem, some more cookies,
but I don’t like this part of the game
where the interest is so one-sided,
where you only reply out of courtesy,
never allowing anything to become
an opportunity to hear what was once the sweetest voice,
so let’s make a deal
and become a faint memory,
and inconvenient what-if every once in a while,
a reason to smile,
because it was once possible,
a reason to be braver next time,
allowing what is meant to be to thrive.
Let’s fade away
to the point we become faces without names
or names without faces.
